Week 2: Ray Charles

In the reading, The Last Days of Brother Ray, David  Ritz talks about the great Ray Charles and his change throughout the years that he knew him to the day he past away. Ray was seen as a very powerful man; Ritz mentions that he did not need his sight to see who you are. He was confident in every step that he made in his life. One giant transition that I find interesting is that his belief in god changes as his life starts to have complications. Ray said that the he does not trust god; if god was there then he would not have lost his mother and left him alone. His mother's words were the only thing that he believed in. But when he gets diagnosed with cancer, as death starts to approach, his belief, his view towards god and himself changes. Now that he is living his last days, he prays to god hoping that god will let him live. He also wants to admit that it was not him who came up with his life's work, it was the work of many others that he just put together. I find it interesting that change suddenly happens to Ray its almost as if he was hiding these feelings that, his real feelings, all along because he created this persona that everyone admired and loved. Someone who did not give a f***,  in fact when he was that kind of person but did not want to let everyone down.
