Media Advertising
The article, Extreme Parenting, caught my eye because of how it explains that parents get somehow hypnotized by the media. It discusses how parents try to do everything to give their newborns an advantage to become smarter at an early age. And the media tries to explain how their has been studies on how this experiment called the "mozart effect" has help newborns be more productive. The article goes more into detail on how the media uses scientific research such as newborns losing braincells as they go along, but the media uses it as a way to scare the parents into thinking that losing braincells is a bad thing even thought it is a natural process of the human brain. The way I see is that the media has found a great way to use this by rewording some of the research on newborns and some witty media advertising. And since it is sponsored by Disney, "the most wonderful place on the earth," parents are going to have an easier time to believe just because of the fact that Disney is seen as a care provider for arriving adolescents. And the media also forgets to mention the research can not be proven to work; the research has gone back and forth with this study. But still, I do not blame parents for falling for it, they care too much about their kids than to risk- the possibility- of not giving their newborns the every thing they can to give them an advantage in their life.
